Rauw Alejandro
Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. The song is a blend of reggaeton and pop music did not just bring interest in reggaeton but also attracted attention to Latin music more generally. The Billboard Top 100 in 2015 had two tracks that were mostly in the Spanish language, while in 2016 there were four. However, during the heights of Despacito's fame in the year 2017 there were 19 mostly Spanish tracks which made it into the Top 100. Then in 2020 there were 41. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with a Spanish-language version in 2017 and soon after popular artists began working together with reggaeton groups. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny to produce MIA (2018), while Madonna worked on Medellin along with Maluma (2019). Some reggaeton artists expressed their displeasure at the rise of mainstream music in 2020. A new group, Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the development and growth of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music and different styles was an accepted procedure.
